Editorial policy
Maldives Observer reports in English for readers in the Maldives and abroad. These are the standards every story meets before it is published.
Accuracy and sourcing
We attribute every claim to a named source or document. We use anonymous sources only when there is no other way to report a story in the public interest, and an editor must know who they are.
Independence
Advertisers and sponsors have no say over our journalism. Paid content is always labelled.
Opinion
Comment and analysis appear under Opinion, clearly labelled, and never in news stories.
Use of AI
Our newsroom uses AI tools to help with research, translation and first drafts. Every story is checked and edited by a journalist before publication, and AI-generated images are labelled as illustrations. We never use AI images to depict real news events.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly. See our corrections policy.
