Defence ministry signs Rotime Engineering to build 15-storey MNDF building
The Defence Ministry has contracted China's Rotime Engineering and Technology to design and build a 15-storey MNDF accommodation and logistics building at Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi within two years, MNDF said.
China's Rotime Engineering and Technology Co Ltd will design and build a 15-storey MNDF accommodation and logistics building at Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi under a contract signed in Malé on 2 November 2026.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the agreement was concluded with the Ministry of Defence and National Service at a ceremony held at Bandaarakoshi. The integrated building is due to be finished within two years.
Biggest MNDF development to date
According to MNDF, no development project in the history of the armed forces has been larger. Once complete, the building will give the force the accommodation and logistics space it requires for its operations and to reinforce its capability.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu included the project in his 2026 Presidential Address, among measures to expand MNDF's operational capacity and develop its facilities.
Signing ceremony
Deputy Minister Fathimath Mizna Ali signed on behalf of the ministry, and the managing director of Rotime Engineering and Technology signed for the company.
Minister of Defence and National Service Hassan Rasheed attended as guest of honour. Others present included Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, MNDF general officers, senior officials from the ministry and executives of the company.
Contract terms
Under the design-and-build arrangement, the contractor takes responsibility for both designing and constructing the building. MNDF has not disclosed what the contract is worth or how it will be financed.
