Ahmed Saleem chairs Majlis Budget Committee as 2027 budget review begins
The People's Majlis Budget Committee has named Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem chair and Central Fuvahmulah MP Ali Fazad vice chair for its 2027 budget review, Majlis records show.
Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem will lead the People's Majlis Budget Committee through its review of the 2027 state budget, with Central Fuvahmulah MP Ali Fazad as vice chair, Majlis committee records show.
Both appointments are dated 4 November 2026, and both MPs belong to the PNC.
Committee line-up
The Majlis lists 22 members on the committee for this term, drawn from the PNC, the MDP, the JP and the MDA, according to the membership list on its website. Most were placed on the committee on 29 October 2026. Two, Ahmed Aifan of North Henveyru and Mohamed Dawoodh of North Kulhudhuffushi, joined on 4 November 2026.
The committee held its first meeting of 2026 on 4 November, with a second meeting scheduled for 10:30 on 5 November.

The committee's work item titled "Forecasted Budget for the year 2027" was opened on 29 October 2026 and is listed as ongoing. Separately, the Majlis records "Budget 2027" as an ongoing parliament work, covering the presentation of the 2027 Budget under Article 96(h) of the Constitution.
Recent leadership
This is not Saleem's first time in the chair. Majlis records show he chaired the committee's review of the 2026 budget from 6 November to 19 November 2025, the day that review concluded. In October and November 2024, Fazad chaired the committee for the 2025 budget, with Saleem as his vice chair.
Before reporting to the Majlis, the committee scrutinises the proposed budget with officials from bodies including the Ministry of Finance, the Maldives Monetary Authority and the Auditor General's Office.
