President declares 12 November a government holiday after Republic Day
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has made Thursday 12 November 2026 a government holiday, giving government employees a four-day break after Republic Day, the President's Office said.
Government employees will have Thursday 12 November 2026 off after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared it an official holiday, the President's Office said on 5 November.
Four days off in a row
The extra day links Republic Day, a public holiday on Wednesday 11 November, with the usual Friday and Saturday weekend. Government staff will therefore be off from Wednesday 11 November to Saturday 14 November, returning to work on Sunday 15 November.
Reason for the decision
Thursday would otherwise have been a working day sandwiched between the holiday and the weekend. The President's Office said the holiday was declared to give government employees a continuous break.
The announcement covers government employees only and makes no reference to the private sector.
