Maldive Gas reduces cylinder refill quantities from 7 November
Maldive Gas says it will temporarily fill cylinders with less gas from Saturday 7 November 2026, putting 7kg in 10kg cylinders, 14kg in 22kg and 31kg in 45kg.
Cooking gas customers will get smaller refills from Saturday 7 November 2026 after Maldive Gas, a State Trading Organisation (STO) subsidiary, announced a temporary cut to the quantity in each cylinder.
Reasons given
In its statement, the company blamed higher international gas prices and problems bringing gas into the Maldives. It said the move is intended to keep supply flowing without interruption.
How much each cylinder will hold
- 10kg cylinder: 7kg
- 22kg cylinder: 14kg
- 45kg cylinder: 31kg
The rate per kg stays the same. Customers pay the existing price only for the weight they receive, which means each refill contains less gas.
Not the first time this year
Maldive Gas has not said how long the reduced quantities will last. Comparable restrictions were imposed in March 2026.
Storage expansion planned
According to the company, work is in progress to enlarge the country's gas storage capacity. Once complete, the Maldives would be able to hold three months of supply at a time, which Maldive Gas describes as a lasting answer to repeated shortages.
