Chinese firm to design and build the largest development in MNDF history
MNDF's largest development yet, a 15-storey building at Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi combining accommodation and logistics space, will be designed and built within two years by China's Rotime Engineering and Technology, MNDF said.
MNDF, the Maldives National Defence Force, is to gain what it describes as the biggest development the armed forces have ever undertaken: a 15-storey building at Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi combining accommodation with logistics. The Defence Ministry has signed the design-and-build contract with Rotime Engineering and Technology of China.
Officials put their signatures to the agreement at Bandaarakoshi, Malé, on 2 November 2026, and the building is due to be finished within two years, MNDF said.
Why the force needs it
According to MNDF, the completed building will give the force the accommodation and logistics space its operations demand and help reinforce its capability.
The scheme featured in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's 2026 Presidential Address, among measures to enlarge MNDF's operational capacity and develop its facilities.
Signing and terms
Deputy Minister Fathimath Mizna Ali signed for the ministry, and the managing director of Rotime Engineering and Technology for the company. Defence and National Service Minister Hassan Rasheed attended as guest of honour. Also present were Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Force; Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, Vice Chief of Defence Force; MNDF general officers; senior officials from the ministry; and executives of the contractor.
A design-and-build arrangement leaves both the design and construction of the building to the contractor. MNDF has disclosed neither the value of the contract nor how the work will be paid for.
