Veshifahi programme opens 48 small Malé state plots to co-owners and neighbours

Owners of land surrounding 48 fragments of state property in Malé now have the opportunity to acquire them, paying MVR 2,000 for each square foot. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development set out the terms on 5 November 2026 in notice No. (IUL)491/491/2026/178, issued under the Veshifahi Malé Programme.

Sales begin on Sunday 8 November 2026; applications must be lodged by Tuesday 8 December 2026, at 14:00.

Who may buy

Eligibility is narrow. Only two categories of buyer qualify: people who co-own the plots within which the listed land lies, and those who own adjacent plots. The sale is governed by the Veshifahi Malé Programme's rules on the sale of state land, gazetted on 28 June 2021.

Price and sizes

The rate does not vary between plots, so a 100 sq ft parcel, for instance, would cost MVR 200,000. The parcels themselves are small: the smallest measures 21.6 sq ft and the largest 275.21 sq ft. By area, the ministry's breakdown is:

  • Maafannu: 21 plots
  • Machchangolhi: 10 plots
  • Henveiru: 9 plots
  • Galolhu: 7 plots
  • Villingili: 1 plot

The notice contains the complete schedule of plot numbers, addresses and sizes. Because certain addresses are divided into more than one part, each of a different size, applicants should be sure which part they want.

How to apply

  • From 8 November, obtain the application form and the chart of plots on offer from infrastructure.gov.mv or from the ministry's reception.
  • Complete the form prescribed by the sales rules.
  • Enclose each document those rules specify.
  • Lodge the application with the ministry by Tuesday 8 December 2026, at 14:00.

Enquiries, and complaints about any of the listed plots, can be made by telephone on 400 4900 or in person during office hours.
